Clifton Forge Baptist Church Member Dies At Age 79

Betty Jean Simpson Gibson, age 79, of The Woodlands Health and Rehab, formerly of 549 Roxbury St. Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday April 27, 2012 at the Woodlands.

She was born on June 8, 1932 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of the late George Moten and Evie Stone Simpson.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin "Dutch" Gibson, Jr. in 2004; three sisters, Dorothy Moss, Virginia Gilbert, and Mildred Kelley, and two brothers, Charles E. Simpson, Sr. and George O. Simpson.

She is survived by one daughter, Kelly Crowder and her husband, Joey; two sons, Steven "Hoot" Gibson, Richard "Fuzzy" Gibson and his wife, Carolyn, all of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Margaret Polakowski of San Diego, CA, Leolyn Conner, of Clifton Forge, Kathleen Feamster, of Hot Springs; one brother, Kenneth Simpson of Iron Gate; six grandchildren, Jessica Gibson of Clifton Forge, Douglas Gibson and his wife, Shelly of Martinsville, TSgt Jason Gibson and his wife, Natachya of Spanaway, WA, Shannon Gibson of Roanoke, and Brittney Crowder and Erin Crowder, both of Clifton Forge; two great-grandchildren, Alivia Hoover of Clifton Forge and Jordyn Gibson of Martinsville; a great grandchild to be born in May, Javin Gibson; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, and her family at The Woodlands and Mountain Regional Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Edith Snedegar and Reverend Virgil Woodie officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Billy Leffue, Douglas Gibson, Bill Hardbarger, Jim Gilbert, Jon Gilbert, and Jerry Belcher. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Kelly and Joey Crowder, 549 Roxbury Street, Clifton Forge. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Woodlands Activity Fund, 1000 Fairview Ave, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
