George Ernest Kirby, 65, of Lexington, Virginia, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home.

Born September 6, 1946 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Emmett Kirby, Sr. and Eldena Montgomery Kirby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty J. Adams and Nora Lee Kirby; and one brother, William E. Kirby.

Mr. Kirby was a member of the Lauderdale A.R.P. Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Lou Kirby; two daughters, Melissa Kirby and Tasha Johnson; one son, Chad Kirby, all of Lexington; two brothers, Kenneth Kirby of Amherst, and Emmett Kirby, Jr. of Buena Vista; three sisters, Martha Dorey of Rocky Mount; and Agnes Gilmore and Wanda Doc, both of Lexington; three grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Volpe and the Rev. Rachel Jones officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Sandra Lou Kirby, 65 Goldstar Lane, Lexington, VA, 24450.
