Blue Springs Church Of Christ Member Was Former Covington Resident

Alice Johnson Lawhorn, age 94, passed away May 2, 2012, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City Missouri.

She lost her beloved husband Jesse William Lawhorn, Sr. in 2004, after being married for 62 years.

She was the daughter of Thomas R Johnson, deceased, and Grace O. Taylor Johnson, deceased.

She was born June 11, 1917 in Covington, Virginia, where she lived most of her life until she and her late husband made their home with their daughter in 1994.

She was a member of the Blue Springs Church of Christ in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Her hobbies were reading her Bible, listening to hymns and sermons, and crocheting pillow cases to give away to friends. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and her friends.

She married Jesse W. Lawhorn, Sr. in 1941. He was the love of her life and he went home to the Lord in 2004. To this union three children were born: Jesse W. Lawhorn, Jr married to Linda Nichols Lawhorn; Don E Lawhorn married to Melody Lipps Lawhorn; and Linda L. Nicely married to Benjamin Nicely, and adopted a daughter, Deborah Kay Woodson Fine, deceased.

Other survivors include: Mrs. Eunice Craft, sister, Mrs. Catherine Shifflett, sister; Gene T. Lawhorn, brother-in-law (Becky), Mrs. Mildred L. Holestin, sister-in-law (Richard); nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. She is greatly loved by her family and will be deeply missed by all.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Lawhorn was preceded in death by her sister, Marguerite Varner; two brothers, James Johnson and Earl Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Craft and Lynn Shifflett.

Family night was held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home. Services were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the Church of Christ on Carpenter Dr. in Covington, Virginia with Ken Goodmiller officiating. Entombment followed at the Alleghany Memorial Park.
