Retired Operating Room Nurse Was Instrumental In Sharon Elementary School Construction

Elsie Modelle Harrison Capps, age 91, of The Brian Center in Low Moor, Virginia, and formerly of Scott Hill Apartments, Clifton Forge, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was born February 9, 1921 in Victoria, Virginia, to the late Ernest Watson Harrison and Alta Browder Harrison.

She was a retired Operating Room Technician for the Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital, former president of the PTA, and was instrumental in the construction of the new Sharon Elementary School.

She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Clifton Forge, where she belonged to the Rose Tatum Circle, and was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge # 8, Good Hope LOTO Sheba 113.

She loved sports and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Benjamin Capps in 1985; and a son-in-law, William "Bud" Hall in 2009.

She is survived by a son, Ernest Benjamin "Benny" Capps and wife, Sandra of Covington; two daughters, Nancy Hall of Fairfield and Geneva Welch and husband, Roger of Flint Hill; a sister, Janet Atzert of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Chris Hall, Matt Hall, Shannon McGhee, Ryan Welch, Courtney Harrington, and Jayson Capps; eight great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Doug Hollenbeck officiating.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Benny Capps, Matt Hall, Chris Hall, Ryan Welch, Jayson Capps, and Matt McGhee.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Benny and Sandra Capps, 2031 Evergreen Road, Covington, VA. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the First Christian Church D.O.C., P. O. Box 63, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
