Mary Bowyer Dobson, 85, of 209 East Locust Street, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

She was born to the late Robert L. and Mary Tinsley Bowyer on October 6, 1926 in Lexington.

Mrs. Dobson was a graduate of the former Lylburn Downing High School in Lexington and attended college at Virginia State University in Petersburg.

She was joined in holy matrimony with Ira Dobson, Jr. of Covington on November 20, 1948.

Mrs. Dobson was retired as a Dietician Supervisor from Alleghany Regional Hospital.

She was a member of the Concerned Christian Baptist Church, where served in the church choirs and as a deaconess.

Mrs. Dobson leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Ira Dobson, Jr. of Covington; two sons; Ira Dobson III and his wife, Tommie of Indianapolis, IN and Edward L. Dobson and is wife, Lark of Springdale, MD; five grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; one sister, Peggy A. Hughes of Covington, one sister-in-law, Ardelia D. Thompson, of Covington; two brothers-in law, Robert L. Dobson and his wife, Charlene of Christiansburg and Forest Dobson and his wife, Annie Mae of Buffalo, NY and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2012 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William O. Hickman III officiating.

The interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends one hour prior to service time at Arritt Funeral Home on Sunday.
