Obituary for Mabel Reed Caldwell Mabel Reed Caldwell
Retired Covington Police Dispatcher Was Alleghany County Native

Mrs. Mabel Reed Caldwell, age 91, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at The Woodlands, Clifton Forge.

She was the wife of the late Archie Pharr Caldwell, Jr.

Mrs. Caldwell was born May 28, 1920 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Eugene Herbert Reed and Charlotte Rose Reed.

A resident of this community for most of her life, she was employed as a dispatcher with the City of Covington Police Department, retiring with twenty years service.

Mrs. Caldwell was a member of Hokes Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed needlework.

Mrs. Caldwell is survived by two grandchildren, Eugene Reed Higgins and Laura Celeste Higgins; one great grandchild; her stepson, Archer Pharr Caldwell, III and wife, Gale; three step grandchildren, Christopher Caldwell, Carlee Joe Spelts and Carrie Campbell; one nephew, Herbert Jenkins; and a number of cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Caldwell was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Harold Higgins in 1996; two sisters, Hilda Bilbro in 2005 and infant sister, Lillian Reed in 1920.

A private funeral service was conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Virgil Woodie officiating.
