Navy Veteran Was Catholic Church Member

Richard Albert Hiser, 84, of Lexington, Virginia, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born March 4, 1928 in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Howard Eugene Hiser and Margaret Plitnik Hiser.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen R. Olsen.

Richard was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was a Virginia State Trooper for thirty-three years and retired as 1st Sargent.

Mr. Hiser was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, member of the VFW Post 1499 and the American Legion #126.

Surviving are his wife, Angela R. Hiser of Lexington; two daughters, Martha A. Gallier and husband, Wayne of Buena Vista; Regina M. Rice and husband, Marshall of Amherst; brothers, Eugene H. Hiser; Michael E. Tall, both of Newport News; sister, Margaret E. Hughes; one granddaughter, Jeanene C. Rice; and his feline companions.

A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Joseph D'Aurora officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Rockbridge SPCA, P.O. Box 528, Lexington, VA, 24450.

A Rosary will be held 5 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
