Obituary for Elizabeth Michael (Betty) Culpepper Elizabeth Michael (Betty) Culpepper
Former Roanoke Resident Entertained Kendal Residents

Elizabeth Michael (Betty) Culpepper, 99, of Kendal at Lexington, Virginia, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012.

She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, where she taught Sunday School and later was a Girl Scout leader.

She was presented an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women.

She worked as a young girl at her father's business, Michael's Bakery, and later at Fenton's Gift Shop.

Betty attended Peabody Conservatory and Hollins College and enjoyed playing the piano for all the residents of Kendal at Lexington during her later years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Rea B. (Tony) Culpepper; brothers, James W. Michael and Dr. John H. Michael; and parents, Walter C. Michael and Margaret Michael.

Betty is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Marty and Mike Collingwood, of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Rea B. Culpepper Jr. and Pat, of Stanardsville; grandchildren, Cindy Pennington and husband, Randy, Lauren Collingwood, Dianna Smith, Erin Trost and husband, David, and Michael Cochran; great-grandchildren, Logan Smith and Ashlynn Trost; nephews, James W. Michael Jr. and wife, JoAnn, of Roanoke, John H. Michael Jr., of Roanoke; nieces, Beverly Hite and husband, Billy, of Roanoke, Margot Thompson and husband, Joe, of Christiansburg; and many extended family members and special friends.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, with L. Gerald Carter, CLP officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fellowship Fund at Kendal at Lexington, 160 Kendal Dr., Lexington, VA 24450; Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016; Calvary Memorial Church, 2226 Colonial Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24015; or Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450.
