Former MeadWestaco Administrative Assistant Was Avid Virginia Tech Fan

Mrs. Wanda Carter Warlitner, age 68, of Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem.

She was the wife of A.L. "Tony" Warlitner.

Mrs. Warlitner was born June 9, 1943 in Covington, the daughter of the late Arnold Carter and Bertha Knick Carter.

She was employed as an Administrative Assistant for the Engineering Department by MeadWestvaco.

Wanda was a member of the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, a retired member of the Westvaco Rescue Squad Auxiliary, and an avid Virginia Tech fan. Mrs. Warlitner was a member, past board member and officer of Alleghany Country Club. She was a regular walker in the Survivors Walk for the Relay for Life.

In addition to her husband, A.L. "Tony" Warlitner, Mrs. Warlitner is survived by two sons, Todd Warlitner and wife, Karen of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Tab Warlitner and wife, Laura of Huntingtown, MD; one daughter, Tarie Warlitner of Covington; six grandchildren, Brian Warlitner, Kara Warlitner, Kristen Warlitner, Victoria L. "Tori" Lilly and husband, Keith, Tiana Warlitner, and Danielle Conner; two great grandchildren, Kyndle Koonce and Kellen Lilly; and one sister, Algene Barney of Louisa.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael C. Fleenor officiating. Interment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Bobby Rose, Jerry Taylor, Buddy Ervin, Mark Weikle, James Burnette, Ken Kirkham, Jimmy Oliver and Burl Higginbotham. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Burks and Ben Pearman.

The family received friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
