Obituary for Burley Clifton Shanks Burley Clifton Shanks
Burlington Retiree Was Rockbridge County Native

Burley Clifton Shanks, 82, of Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, passed away June 12, 2012 at his home.

He was born on June 8, 1930 in Rockbridge County to the late Ruby Layne Shanks and John Cleveland Shanks.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Virginia (Boggie) Shanks; four brothers and four sisters.

Burley retired from Burlington Industries in Glasgow in 1999 with over 50 years of service.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law: Pamela and Glenn (Willie) Wingo of Blue Ridge and Tracy and Toni Akers of Natural Bridge Station; five grandchildren: Eric Wingo and wife, Jennifer, David Wingo, Ashley Hardin and husband, Perry, Michael Akers and T. J. Akers; one great grandson, Colin Wingo; and many special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tony Nix officiating. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to special caregiver, Donna Bateman, Dr. William Lyle McClung and Rockbridge Area Hospice. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
