Obituary for Edward Andrew Rowan Edward Andrew Rowan
World War II Veteran Was MeadWestvaco Retiree

Mr. Edward Andrew Rowan, age 87, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at LewisGale Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Joyce Gibson Rowan.

Mr. Rowan was born March 11, 1925 in Sweet Springs WV, the son of the late Edward Johnston Rowan and Minnie Helen Williams Rowan.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was employed as a machine tender by MeadWestvaco, retiring with forty-five years of service.

Mr. Rowan was a member of First Christian Church. Most of all, he enjoyed working on Breezy Valley Farm.

In addition to his wife, Joyce Gibson Rowan, Mr. Rowan is survived by two sons, Andrew Steven Rowan of Hot Springs and William Carleton Rowan of Covington; two grandchildren, Brandon Dwight Rowan and Heather Lynn Rowan Riley; and one sister, Constance Rowan Hylton of Elyria, OH.

In addition to his parents, Edward Johnston Rowan and Minnie Helen Williams Rowan, Mr. Rowan was preceded in death by one son, Dwight Evanston Rowan; and two half-brothers, Alfred Smith and Chesley Smith.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

Graveside rites will be conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at Alleghany Memorial Park by 10:45 a.m.
