Oxford Presbyterian Church Member Dies At Age 89

Eugene Richard Ayers, 89, of Lexington, Virginia, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Augusta Health Care Center in Fishersville.

Born October 24, 1922, in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Walter Ayers and Mary Anne Wilhelm Ayers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Entsminger Ayers; and his son, Richard Ayers. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Hazel Ayers; and four brothers, Gilmer, Albert, Lloyd, and Frank Ayers.

Eugene was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn B. Ayers, of Lexington; two stepsons, Bobby Black and wife, Stephanie; Richard Black and wife, Lisa; one sister-in-law, Ecalean Entsminger, all of Lexington; one grandson, Clint Ayers; two stepgrandsons, Blaine and Robby Black; two stepgranddaughters, Katelynn Baker and Sydney Faith Black.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Horace Douty officiating. Burial will be private at Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450, or Oxford Presbyterian Church Cemetery, c/o Ray Hickman, 98 Sycamore Valley Drive, Lexington, VA 24450.
