Korean War Veteran Was Lexington Native

James Floyd Williams, 80, of Lexington, Virginia, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Benjamin Borden Healthcare Center in Lexington.

Born March 6, 1932 in Lexington, he was a son of the late Henry Lee Williams and Bettie Smith Williams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Arnold, Howard, Paul, Virgil, Joe, George, and three sisters, Virginia Heaster, Mae Smith, Leola Plott.

James was a member of the Kerrs Creek Baptist Church and was a Korean Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Okinawa.

Mr. Williams loved gardening and enjoyed his carpentry career which led to many friendships.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Hinkle Williams, of Lexington; two daughters, Kathy Williams Breeden, of Scottsville, Debby Williams, of Lexington; one sister, Edith Marie Armstrong, of Clifton Forge; one grandson, Brian Breeden.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kris Peaden officiating. Burial will follow at New Monmouth Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kerrs Creek Vol. Fire Department, 2880 W. Midland Trail, Lexington, VA 24450 or to the Diabetes Association, 530 E. Main Street, Suite 200, Richmond, VA 23219.
