Obituary for Julian Wallace Bess Julian Wallace Bess
World War II Veteran Was Quality Control Foreman At MeadWestvaco

Julian Wallace Bess, 90, of 408 Corner Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Lewis Gale Alleghany in Low Moor.

He was born October 30, 1921 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Andy Lee and Radie Arritt Bess.

Mr. Bess served during World War II with the U.S. Navy in the North Atlantic.

He retired in 1986 as a Quality Control Foreman with MeadWestvaco after 40 years of service.

He was a member of Mallow Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bess was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Stokey Bess in 2004; five brothers, Gerald, Gary, Arthur, and two infant brothers; three sisters, Mabel, Estella, and one infant sister.

Surviving are his daughter, Betty Bess of Covington; his son and daughter in law, Julian W. Bess, Jr. and his wife, Teresa of Frederick, MD; two grandson, Ryan Bess of Frederick, MD, and Matthew Bess of Bethesda, MD; one sister, Patty Bess of Grafton, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terrie Slate officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
