Obituary for Eunice Mae Wilhelm Mays Eunice Mae Wilhelm Mays
Covington Native Was Longtime Roanoke County School System Secretary

Eunice Mae Wilhelm Mays, age 78, formerly of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away July 5, 2012 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Virginia Beach.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William (Bill) Ryland Mays. Her father, Clarence E. Wilhelm, her mother, Mary Linkenhoker Wilhelm, as well as her nephew, Lance Wayne Lanum, also preceded her in death.

Eunice was born in Covington June 18, 1934. She was a graduate of Covington High School and worked in the Roanoke County School System as a secretary for more than 25 years.

Eunice enjoyed crafts and cooking, loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She and Bill enjoyed traveling between their homes at Smith Mountain Lake and Fort Myers, Florida as well as visiting old friends and family out west numerous times in their RV until Bill's death in 2005.

She is survived by a sister Marcia Lanum and husband Larry; a son, Rickey D. Mays and wife Melinda; a daughter, Tamsen Mays Davis, Harry L. Davis III; her grandchildren, Kirsten Mays Kordon and husband Tim, Baxter Mays, Sophie Mays Robertson and husband Josh, as well as Cameron Davis and Harry L. "Rolley" Davis IV; four great grandchildren; Addison, Teagan, Maddox and Evangeline Grace. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Betsy Wells and husband, Steve, Mike Lanum and wife, Andrea, as well as brother-in-law, Berkley Mays, and sisters-in-law, Mary Mays, Mary Francis (Aunt Susie) Mays Davis, and Dorothy Mays McDonald.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington, Virginia with Rev. Dan Gillette officiating. The family will receive friends at the ARP church immediately following the service.
