Obituary for Ruby Eloise Deacon Ruby Eloise Deacon
Rockbridge County Native Was Former Effinger Elementary School Secretary

Ruby Eloise Deacon, 82, of Lexington, Virginia, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

She was born August 6, 1929, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Harry Russell Hogue and Hattie Cummings Hogue.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Stuart Deacon.

Ruby was a member of the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, and was a retired secretary from Effinger Elementary School.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan D. Irvine and husband, Keith; Robin D. Kramer and husband, Bill; one sister, Hilda Hogue, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jared Irvine and wife, Ginger, Ann Stuart Irvine, Luke Kramer, Jake Kramer; sister-in-law, Janie Smith and husband, Essie; brother-in-law, Tink Deacon and wife, Florence; special neighbors, Elwood and Kathy Sloan; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Oxford Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Mitchell and Rev. Calvin Griffin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2005 Blue Grass Trail, Lexington, VA 24450, or to the Heritage Hall Resident Activities, 205 Houston Street, Lexington, VA 24450.

The family received friends 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
