Retired CSX Brakeman Dies At Age 76

William Edward (Pete) Dodd, Jr., age 76, of 620 Roxbury Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Saturday August 4, 2012 at LewisGale - Alleghany Medical Center in Low Moor.

He was born April 12, 1936 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late William Edward Dodd, Sr. and the late Mary Newcomb Dodd.

He was a retired brakeman for CSX Transportation with over 47 years of service, a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge, and a regular at the Bachelor's Dinner Table in the Cafeteria at LewisGale-Alleghany Medical Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Dodd Hall and his lifelong companion, Martha L. VanBuren.

He is survived by a daughter, Anita Boone and husband, Rob of Covington; a step-daughter, Eugenia Nicely of Iron Gate; a step-son, Michael VanBuren, Sr. of Richmond; a sister, Mary Vess of Alleghany County; a granddaughter, Megan Boone of Covington; a grandson, Israel Boone of Roanoke; 3 step-grandsons, Michael VanBuren, Jr. and Joshua VanBuren of Williamsburg, and Travis Nicely of Iron Gate; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Paitsel, of Covington; a step-great-granddaughter, Harmony Van Buren of Williamsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, with the Reverend Mike Fleenor officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park in Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Harvey VanBuren, Ronald May, E.C. Jones, Jr. Danny Allen, Elwood Deisher, David Smith, Mitch Vess, and Robert Goodbar. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Nicely Funeral Home, and at other times at Pete's Home, 620 Roxbury Street in Clifton Forge.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of donations in his memory to the ARH Center, C/O 1st National Bank, 151 N. Court Street, Covington, VA 24426.
