Alleghany County Businessman Dies At Age 60

John Robert Dotson, 60, of 2 Ingalls Circle, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday evening, August 17, 2012 at his residence.

He was born in Williamson, West Virginia, on December 22, 1951, a son of Ruth Elizabeth Fannin Bedsaul of Galax and the late Victor Dotson.

He was a retired owner/operator of his inventory business and his home rental business. John was the previous owner/operator of the Stonewall Service Station in Callaghan.

He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Clifton Forge, and was a member of the United States Tennis Association. He loved to play tennis, basketball and golf.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lana Paige Stinespring Dotson of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Katie Dotson of Richmond; a son, Brad Dotson of Roanoke; sister, Doris Ann Maynard of Pikeville, Kentucky; brother, Mackie Bedsaul of Galax; mother and father-in-law, Doris and Harvey Stinespring of Clifton Forge; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and John Hutchison of Clifton Forge and Robbin and Eddie Stinespring of Gordonsville; he is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, McGinnis Carl "Mac" Bedsaul and his grandparents, Emma Preece Fannin and John Fannin and his step-grandparents, Carl and Neil Bedsaul.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. from the Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge with the Rev. Tommy Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the Sharon Baptist Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers were Mackie Bedsaul, Greg Fannin, Eddie Stinespring, Lowell Hill, Daryl Clark, J.R. Via, John Hutchison and Randy Bedsaul. The family received friends Monday evening at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge. The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, Always and Forever Memorial & Honor program, Richmond Office, Suite 200E, 530 Main Street, Richmond, Va. 23219 or to the Central United Methodist Church, P.O.
