BV Water Department Retiree Was Army Veteran, Fond Of Sports

Charles William (Bill) Weeks, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Buena Vista, Va., on May 14, 1936.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Swink Bennett; and a very special stepfather, Merle D. Bennett; and his father, Garnet S. Weeks, of Waynesboro, Va. He was also predeceased by a very special aunt, Evelyn "Swink" Torrence and Uncle Herman, of Lynchburg, Va.; grandparents, Charles "Ruff" Swink and grandmother, Jeanette "Nettie" Swink; and grandmother, Sally Weeks Eggleston.

Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanette Burch Weeks; sister, Martha B. Hamric and husband, David, of Roanoke; Aunt Betty Obenchain and Uncle Bob, of Roanoke; cousins, Ann Wetzork and husband, Bill, of Woodbridge, Va., David Obenchain and wife, Kay, of Millington, Tenn. Surviving also by marriage to Jeanette, a very special sister-in-law, Nancy B. Kidd and husband, Harold; special brothers-in-law, Donald R. Burch and wife, Sylvia, and Leslie R. Burch and wife, Joan.

Bill served two years in the United States Army at Fort Jackson, S.C. He was employed by Burlington, Smith Transfer, and retired from the City of Buena Vista Water Department.

Bill and Jeanette and have visited all but five of the United States. Bill loved sports, especially Parry McCluer "Big Blues" and graduated from Parry McCluer in 1953. He treasured the friendships of each of his classmates. He was very fond of the Red Sox, Yankees, and of course Manuel's Phillies, and UVA.

Bill was Presbyterian until his marriage to Jeanete, on December 21, 1958. He then joined Buena Vista Baptist Church.

Bill says good-bye to cousins, nieces, nephews, by marriage, who called him "B," Chuck, Lucille, Justin, and Wendy, Terri and Jay, Courtney and Michael, Jack and Julianna, Will, Jimmy and Donna, Jill, Gary, Caleb and Bri, Arron, Tony and Kim, Keegan, Colin, Kara, Marty and Rhonda, and Emma Kate, and Brock, Pete and Julie, Phillip, Andrew, Al, Zack, Todd and Missy, Lori and Tom Trevie, and Tino, Lois and Bob, Peggy and Glenn, Carol and Corey, Kris, Joyce, and Hosea, "Skeeter" and Kathy, Becky and Buddy, Tommy and Linda.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at the Buena Vista Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryon LePere officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. The family requests contributions be made to the Buena Vista Baptist Church, the Buena Vista Rescue Squad, and Rockbridge Area Hospice.
