Obituary for Susie Evelene Mays Susie Evelene Mays
Faithful Lone Star Advent Christian Church Member Was Longtime Local Newspaper Correspondent

Susie Evelene Mays, age 88, of 108 Meadow Dale Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at her residence.

She was born November 19, 1923 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Owen Sidney and Daisy Higgins Mays.

She was a retired secretary for the city of Clifton Forge and a homemaker throughout her life.

She was a faithful member of Lone Star Advent Christian Church, where she taught the adult Sunday school class, belonged to the Susie Davis Circle, and sang in the choir.

She volunteered at the Food Pantry for several years, and loved her family, especially all the children in the family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James G. Mays, Sr. and Owen Sidney Mays, Jr., and a sister, Regina Mays Goode.

She is survived by a sister, Addie Linkswiler Vance of Clifton Forge; a special friend, Charlie Keller of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Carlene Mays of Daleville; her nephews, Greg Linkswiler, Jimmy Mays, Milton Mays, Mark Mays, David Mays, and Jeff Mays; her nieces, Roberta Garrett, Brenda Newcomb, and Linda Hill; special great nieces, Stephanie Harrison, and Courtney Landrum; and a number of other great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Doug Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Active pallbearers will be Greg Linkswiler, Milton Mays, Jimmy Mays, Mark Mays, Jeff Mays, and David Mays. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddy Nicely, Earl Higgins, Jr., Charles Downey, Randy Nicely, Terry Loving, and Larry Denius.

The family received friends Friday evening at Nicely Funeral Home and will at other times at the residence. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Lone Star Advent Christian Church, 4704 Nicelytown Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
