Obituary for George Julian (Tunny) Carter George Julian (Tunny) Carter
World War II Navy Veteran Was Hercules Retiree

George Julian (Tunny) Carter, 87, died, Thursday, October 4, 2012 in Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.

He was formerly of Greenlawn Ave. in Covington, Virginia.

He was born August 24, 1925 at Earlhurst in Alleghany County, a son of the late George H. and Annie Lyons Carter.

Mr. Carter served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He retired in 1988 from the former Hercules, Inc.

He was a member of First Christian Church and the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hubbard Carter in 2011; one sister, Sally Moody, and five brothers, William Carter, James Carter, Cecil Carter, Delmas Carter, Jessie Carter and Charles Carter.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Brad Church of Covington; his grandson, Christopher Price Jr, of Harrisonburg; his granddaughter, Sarah Church of Clifton Forge and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the graveside in Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour to service time at Arritt Funeral Home on Sunday.

Military rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 VFW.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Hepler, Sr., Gary Hepler, Jr., Ronnie Jones, Jesse Carter and Bob Carter.
