Clifton Forge Native Was Army Veteran, Former Navy JAG Office Employee

Thomas Carlton Lowry, Jr., age 74, of 9712 Botsford Road in Manasass, VA, formerly of Clifton Forge, died Thursday October 11, 2012 in Manasass.

He was born on April 2, 1938 in Clifton Forge to the late Thomas Carlton Lowry, Sr. and the late Francis Yester Lowry.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a retired civil servant, having worked in the U.S. Department of the Navy JAG office for 37 years.

He was also an avid square dancer and had called dances all over the east coast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen Flood Lowry.

He is survived by a son, Thomas David Lowry, of Manasass; two grand children, Shannon Lowry, Christopher Lowry, both of Manasass, and a sister, Leigh Ford and her husband, Bill of Covington.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Mountain View Cemetery with the Reverend Glenn Clements officiating.

Graveside military honors will be provided by the Curtis-Burnside VFW Post 4299. Interment will immediately follow. There is no formal visitation scheduled, however friends may call during normal business hours at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the home of Leigh and Bill Ford, 3028 S. Greenway Ave., Covington.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
