Robert Alvin Smith, 58, of 314 Pennsylvania Ave., Covington, Virginia, died, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge.

He was born June 28, 1954 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Roy Winston Smith and Nellie Tingler Smith.

Robert was an active member of Life Skills and the Special Olympic Bowling Team.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Via and Tommy Via.

Surviving are his sister, Kathy Sterling of Covington; Edward Via of Buena Vista; his aunt, Eloise Arrington and her husband, James of Covington and his uncle Samuel "Buck" Tingler of Warnerrobbins, GA.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the graveside in Lone Star Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Warren officiating.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Arritt Funeral Home.
