West Virginia Native Was Well-Known Birthday, Wedding Cakemaker

Emma Frances Books Burhenn, 77, formerly of Covington, Virginia, passed away, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the North Hospital of Surry County in Mt. Airy, NC.

She was born March 2, 1935 in Union, WV, a daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Honaker Brooks.

In a addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by an infant son, David Wayne Burhenn and one sister, Lucille Markham.

Frances was a loving mother and grandmother, and she very well known for baking beautiful birthday cakes, as well as wedding cakes.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, William Burhenn, Jr. of Mt. Airy, NC; one daughter, Theresa Boone and her husband, Danny of Covington; two sons, William Burhenn and his wife, Robin of Covington and Kelly Burhenn and his wife, Vickie of Ararat, VA; four sisters, Mary Barber and her husband, Bill and Velma Craft and her husband, Jimmy, all of Covington; Vivian Pendleton of Clifton Forge and Shirley Keith and her husband, James of Hampton; four grandchildren, Chris Boone, Erin Boone, David Burhenn and Derek Burhenn; one step grandchild, Miranda Moncus; one step great grandchild, Carter Moncus, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Boone, David Burhenn, Derek Burhenn, Michael Weade, Jimmy Craft, Steven Pendleton; Joe Markham and Steve Moncus.
