Longtime Buena Vista Volunteer Was Legal Secretary, Medical Transcriber

Carol Ann Hughes Snodgrass, 75, of Buena Vista, Virginia, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 at her home for the past 25 years.

She was surrounded by family and friends and the wonderful care givers from Rockbridge Area Hospice along with her little Pomeranian Maggie at the time of her passing.

Mrs. Snodgrass was born on June 13, 1937 in Ironton, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Miles B. Hughes and Evelyn Graff Hughes.

Carol was a graduate of South Charleston High School, South Charleston W.Va. Class of 1956.

She was a licensed Real Estate agent in the state of Ohio. She worked as a secretary for the vocational rehab department for the state of W.Va. She also worked as a legal secretary and medical transcriber.

Carol was very fluent in the Spanish language having spent 3 years in the Madrid, Spain, area in the late 1950s. She also was a volunteer for a number of years on the board of elections for city of Buena Vista.

Mrs. Snodgrass loved remodeling, decorating, antique collecting, reading and oil painting and art. Carol will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and her lifelong love of animals. She never met a stranger and was always willing to open her home and life to help a neighbor.

Mrs. Snodgrass is survived by her husband, Harrold G. Snodgrass; five children, Carrie Susan Russell, Carmen Maria Hinkle, Carl Grant Snodgrass, Curtis Daniel Snodgrass, and Craig Joseph Snodgrass; four brothers, Galen Hughes, Gary Hughes, Russell Hughes, Patrick Hughes; one sister, Rose Byrd; 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Bolling, Grose & Lots Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tony Nix and Deb Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Mausoleum.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rockbridge area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450 or the Buena Vista Rescue Squad 2037 Sycamore Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista.
