Obituary for Benjamin Marion Powell, Jr. Benjamin Marion Powell, Jr.
CHS Graduate Was Marine, Police Officer, Fire Technician

Mr. Benjamin Marion Powell, Jr., age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the VA Medical Center, Salem.

Mr. Powell was born November 17, 1934 in Covington, the son of the late Benjamin Marion Powell, Sr. and Florence Virginia McCutchen Powell.

He was a graduate of Covington High School and served his country as a member of the United States Marines.

He was employed by the Clifton Forge Police Department before joining the U.S. Forest Service, where he was a fire technician and a law enforcement officer, retiring in 1988 with twenty-six years of service.

Following his retirement, Mr. Powell went to work for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, retiring in 1998.

A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, he was very active in the local chapter of the Alleghany Highlands Friends of the NRA, where he was the co-chairman for three years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
