Obituary for Carol Lee McGuire Bishop Carol Lee McGuire Bishop
Well-Known Local Educator Was Very Active In Her Community; Dies As Result Of Auto Accident

Carol Lee McGuire-Bishop, 70, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Monday morning, November 19, 2012, from injuries sustained in a Friday morning car accident.

Born December 25, 1941, she was the daughter of Joe McGuire and Vivian Stull McGuire of Clifton Forge.

She was a graduate of Central High School and Radford College and a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge.

She spent her adult life as an educator in the Alleghany County School System, working at both Sharon Elementary and Clifton Middle School.

Carol Lee was an active member of many professional as well as civic organizations. She was a past president of the Alleghany Education Association, a member of the retired Virginia Teacher's Organization, a long-time secretary of the Mountaineer Athletic Club, and chairwoman of the local Democratic Party.

She was also a long-time board member of the Alleghany Humane Society.

She was passionate about three things in life. First, she was an avid supporter of the Alleghany Mountaineer athletic programs, her New York Yankees, and her Virginia Tech Hokies. She also championed the cause for every dog or cat that she encountered. Finally, she was proud to drive the red Ford Mustangs that she owned throughout the years.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Norris Bishop of Clifton Forge; a stepson, Eric Bishop of Statesboro, GA; two sisters-in-law, Dena Gill and husband Carter, and Delores Thornton and husband, Walt; beloved nieces and nephews, David C. Gill, Tara Rock and husband, Joshua, Kathryn MaCanna and husband, Robert, Cindi Thomas, and Angela Jones and husband, Barry, and their individual families; her "almost" son, Harry Higgins and wife, Patty of Alleghany County; her "adopted" sisters, Jean Buchanan and Susie Wallace; a special cousin, Marilyn Crowder of Covington and her children, Katrina, Ken, and Kameron, and their individual families; a special college friend, Evona Jessup of Hillsville; and her beloved dogs, Stormy and Hokie Mac, and her cats.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Glenn Clements officiating. Hokie fans in attendance are encouraged to wear their Game Day best.

Interment will be private and will take place on Friday. Pallbearers will be Jason Higgins, David Buchanan, Buddy Buchanan, Chris Fisher, Josh Craft, Kameron Crowder, Ken Crowder, Carter T. Gill, and Don Persinger.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, P. O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA 24457, or to the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, Alleghany Highlands Chapter, C/O Jane Newkirk, 202 Evans Lane, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

Arrangements by Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Va., 540-862-4157.
