Retired Locomotive Engineer Was Rich Patch Union Church Member

Ernest Owen Brown, 76, of 7006 Collierstown Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his residence.

He was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, on December 23, 1935, a son of the late Joe and Odessa Persinger Brown.

Ernest was a retired locomotive engineer for over 30 years with CSX Transportation.

He was a 1954 graduate of Central High School, a lifetime and charter member of the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the United Transportation Union (UTU).

He was a member of the Rich Patch Union Church and attended the Sharon Baptist Church.

He loved hunting deer and turkey.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Robinson Brown of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Lisa Brown Collins of Richmond; a grandson, Keith Brown and wife, Kate of Clifton Forge; brothers, Robert L. Brown and wife, Betty Jo of Low Moor, Edward L. Brown and wife, Sue of Covington, and Fred J. Brown and wife, Diann of Covington; sister-in-law, Lois Brown of Valley Ridge, Covington; aunt, Ruth Bush of Clifton Forge; special family members, Daniel Brown and family of Lansing, Michigan, and Brian Smith and family of Covington; a brother-in-law, John E. "Bud" Robinson of Clifton Forge; 4 great grandchildren, Maddi, Carson, Alli and Emeri Brown; a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Keith "Chuckie" Brown and brother, Ronald E. Brown.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Rev. Edward Wold officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Active pallbearers will be Kevin Brown, Ricky Brown, Lee Brown, Dave Dobson, Dale Brown, Evan Brown, Alan Dale Craft, and Greg Linkswiler. The family received friends Monday evening 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to: Shriner's Hospital for Children, Greenville, South Carolina, c/o Jim Eller, 1201 Crestwood Avenue, Clifton Forge, 24422 or to the St. Jude Memorial and Honor Program -F, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1905.
