Obituary for Charles Edward Lawhorne Jr. Charles Edward Lawhorne Jr.
U.S. Air Force Veteran Was Calvary Brethren Church Member

Charles Edward Lawhorne Jr., 83 years of age, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, December 14, 2012.

Charles, better known as "Charlie" or "Junior," was born June 13, 1929 to Charles "Ed" Lawhorne Sr. and Sarah Burch Lawhorne.

He grew up in his beloved mountains of Amherst County, where he learned to observe and appreciate nature. Hunting and fishing were pastimes that he enjoyed, as long as his strength allowed. Standing in a fast moving stream catching a native trout was his idea of heaven on earth.

He was trained as a corpsman and served in North Africa while in the United States Air Force.

Charlie's career was centered on management; first with Orkin Exterminating Company and later at General Cable Company and Panasote.

A lover of bluegrass and southern gospel music, Charlie enjoyed getting together with family and friends to play music on his Gibson guitar.

He followed in his father's footsteps, teaching the Bible in the Brethren churches he attended. An active member of Calvary Brethren Church of Buena Vista, Charlie clung devotedly to the Lord to the end of his days.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruby Claytor Lawhorne; and four children, Michael Kent Lawhorne, of Smithfield, Lissa Lawhorne Eggleston, of Midlothian, Barry Keith Lawhorne, of Poquoson and Paul Brian Lawhorne, of South Boston. He had one sister, Doris Lawhorne McClung, of Fairfield. He was "Paw Paw" to his seven grandchildren, Aaron J. Lawhorne, Adam J. Lawhorne, James M. Eggleston, Casey A. Eggleston, Jasmine Lawhorne, Taylor B. Lawhorne, Austin Lawhorne and four great-grandchildren, Lana, Ava, Jayce and Jaedyn Lawhorne.

A funeral service will be held at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, with the Rev. Rick Ramsey officiating. The family will receive friends and family members one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Methodist Church.

Arrangements by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista.
