Obituary for Herbert Eldridge (Tonky) Coleman Herbert Eldridge (Tonky) Coleman
U. S. Army Veteran Was Long Time Plumbing And Heating Professional, LDS Church Pioneer

Herbert Eldridge (Tonky) Coleman was born on November 29, 1921, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and left his earthly home surrounded by his wife, children, and many grandchildren on Thursday, January 3, 2013, to enter his Heavenly home after battling serious illnesses.

He served as a United States Army Private in the 1940s.

He was very dedicated to the Rockbridge Area with years of service as a professional in plumbing and heating. He was employed at Dickinson & Cole for 37 years.

After his retirement, he continued to be self-employed, helping many people solve their problems in their time of need.

He was a pioneer member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He was the son of the late James Willis Coleman and Ola Viola Mason Coleman.

He was preceded in death by six siblings; one daughter, Juanita Lowry; and one son, Roger Coleman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Myrtle Coleman; seven daughters, Regina Roberts and husband, Roger, Margaret Ford, Ellen Coleman, Doris Wheeler, Sheila Coleman, Norma Rosson, and Darlene Crawford; three sons, Jimmy Coleman and wife, Nancy, Bob Coleman, and Wallace Coleman and wife, Donna, all of Buena Vista.

He was the most loving grandfather of 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was also survived by a dear brother-in-law, Leon Wilhelm; two sisters-in-law, Sarah and Shirley Wilhelm; along with many extended family and friends.

Tonky was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. He dedicated his entire life to his family, church, and community.

"Daddy and PaPaw, Your earthly existence may no longer be here, but you will forever live in our hearts as we are blessed with your memory."

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Tony Caputo officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 6, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Va., 540-261-5510.
