Obituary for David M. Coffey Sr. David M. Coffey Sr.
U.S. Army Veteran Was Amherst Native, Reeves Brothers Retiree

David M. Coffey Sr., 76, of Buena Vista, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on September 10, 1936 to the late John Robey Coffey and Mamie Womack Coffey.

David grew up in Amherst County and was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed working with cattle and raising the best garden in the county.

He was a United States Army Veteran.

He was on the B. V. Rescue Squad for several years.

He led a life of service and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

He retired from Reeves Brothers as a Junior Chemist and spent his retirement years enjoying most of all serving God, his family, especially being Papa to his four grandchildren, and his beloved Oronoco Church. There he served as a trustee, deacon, and lay speaker. He was also Vice President of the Macedonia Community Association of Coffeytown.

He was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, William Lewis and Martha Ann Coffey; two brothers-in-law, Robert Thomas and Jessee Humphreys.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years and childhood sweetheart, Janie Grant Coffey; son, David M. Coffey Jr.; daughter, Lisa Coffey Stendig and husband, Dan; four grandchildren, Lindsey Coffey Stinnett and husband, Zack, Sydney Coffey, Eli Stendig and Lily Sunshine Stendig; three sisters, Jeanie Thomas, Shirley Humphreys and Patsy Wingfield; and several nieces; and nephews.

Funeral services will be held a 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, at Oronoco Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista.
