Obituary for Robert Lee (Bob) Kidd Robert Lee (Bob) Kidd
World War II Veteran, Self-Employed Carpenter, Was Clifton Forge Native

Robert Lee (Bob) Kidd, age 77, of 132 Skyline Manor on Blue Ridge Road in Glasgow, Virginia, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem.

Bob was born July 21, 1935 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Robert Lee and Mamie Humphries Kidd.

He served in the United States Army as Corporal during the Korean War. and was a respected, self-employed carpenter and brick and rock mason.

For many years, he also balanced work with running his own farm. He was a kind and helpful man that could calm a child or a farm animal with ease. His hands were large, strong, and gentle, as was his heart. He was loved and surrounded by many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Anne Marie Kidd, and a son, George H. Kidd.

He is survived by eleven children, Patricia "Patty" Kidd of Oakland, CA, Robert Kidd, Jr. of Wetumka, OK, Kathleen "Kathy" Kidd of Wytheville, Darrell Kidd of Roanoke, Victoria Kidd of Glasgow, James "Jamie" Kidd of Buena Vista, Kelly Landrie of Fort Mill, SC, Kerry "Katie" Kidd of Myrtle Beach, SC, Shannon Eben of Patterson, CA, Patrick Kidd of Glasgow, and Shawn "Shane" Kidd of Glasgow; a sister, Joyce Craft of Roanoke; two brothers, James "Jimmy" Kidd of Buena Vista and Richard Kidd of Moneta; dozens of loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and many friends. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A graveside memorial service will be held on his birthday, July 21, 2013 in Sunrise Cemetery, Low Moor, VA.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Bob's name to the Natural Bridge- Glasgow Food Bank, P.O. Box 374, Natural Bridge Station, Virginia 24579.
