Obituary for John Kenna Brinkley, Jr. John Kenna Brinkley, Jr.
Retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant Was Millboro Resident

John Kenna Brinkley, Jr., age 75, of 37 Brinkley Hill Drive, Millboro, Virginia, died Monday February 11, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

He was born September 28, 1937 in Bath County, Virginia, a son of the late John Kenna Brinkley, Sr. and Hattie Elizabeth Deeds Brinkley.

He retired as Master Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps, after 23 years of active duty, was a member of Woodland Union Church, and a member of the Coleman-Brinkley VFW Post #4204 in Hot Springs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Gray Brinkley in April of 2009.

He is survived by four daughters, Tammy Gail Lagoe of Millboro, Hattie Loretta Byrd and husband, Charles of Jacksonville, NC, Joanne Baker and husband, Randy of Chesapeake, and Teresa Rena Jones and husband, John of Millboro; a son, John Franklin Brinkley and wife, Kathy of Millboro; a brother, Jerry Leroy Brinkley and wife, Lorie of Hinton; six grandchildren, Christina Warren, Lisle Rogers, Ashley Baker, A. J. Lagoe, Jonathan Robert Baker, and Madison Gray Baker; four great grandchildren, Camden Warren, Nattily Jones, Kinley Rogers, and Ariana Warren; and special friends of the family, Wanda Clark, Mavis Plecker, and Peggy Brinkley.

A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Woodland Union Church, Millboro with Pastor David George officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Millboro. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

Active pallbearers will be A. J. Lagoe, Larry Plecker, Dale Plecker, Robert Plecker, Dale Loan, and Greg Loan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Deeds, Tommy Black, Edgar Brinkley, Glenn Hicklin, Doug Wells, Dennis Brinkley, Derek Brinkley, and Grant Brinkley.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Woodland Union Church, 347 McClung Drive, Millboro, VA 24460.
