Obituary for Giles William (Hokie) Gobble Giles William (Hokie) Gobble
Former Salem Public Works Supervisor Dies At Age 61

Giles William (Hokie) Gobble, age 61, of 2500 Botetourt Road, Fincastle, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Hokie was born August 27, 1951 in Lebanon, Virginia, to the late Jasper Franklin and Ethel Fields Gobble.

He was a retired Supervisor for the City of Salem Public Works.

He was a people person, never met a stranger, and knew everyone throughout Botetourt County. He loved four wheeling, NASCAR and fishing. He especially loved his family, all of his friends, and the children in his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank Gobble, Porter Gobble, Kyle Gobble, James Gobble and David Lynn Gobble.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Bryant Gobble of Fincastle; his mother-in-law, Celia Bryant of Iron Gate; a sister, Mary Phillips and husband, Michael of Bassett; seven brothers, George "Buck" Gobble and wife, Judy of Lebanon, Walter G. Gobble and wife, Sharon of Lebanon, Howard "Wink"' Gobble of Lebanon, Larry "Pappy" Gobble and wife, Sandy of Mississippi, Eddie "Mule" Gobble and wife Lisa of Bassett, Hubert "Jake" Gobble and wife, Lucy of Elliston, and Robert "Bob" Gobble of Kentucky; a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Fincastle Rescue Squad, Botetourt E.M.S. and Lewis Gale Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Scott Meade officiating. Interment will follow in Iron Gate Community Cemetery. Hokie's nieces and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family received friends on Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Hokie's name to the local charity of your choice.
