Emma Rucker Braxton, 80, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Buena Vista.

She was born May 12, 1932, in Amherst a daughter of the late Joseph "Doll" Rucker and Gertrude Carter Rucker.

Mrs. Braxton was a member of the Timothy Baptist Church in Amherst.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Wayne Braxton; and eight siblings.

Surviving are her daughter, Charlotte Lomax; one brother, Taylor Rucker; dear friend, Sandra Thurman; one granddaughter, Kishia Braxton; host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; beloved dog, Lady.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lee R. Carter officiating. Entombment followed at Green Hill Mausoleum. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Casale, 4381 Windy Gap Dr. Roanoke, VA 24014, for future care of Emma's faithful companion, "Lady".

The family received friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista.
