Obituary for James Mack Hickman James Mack Hickman
World War II Army Veteran Was VDOT Equipment Operator

James Mack Hickman, 85, of 361 Chimney Run Road, Warm Springs, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2013.

He was born March 20, 1927 in Bath County, the son of the late Gerry Hickman and Virginia Hise Hickman.

He was married to his wife of 63 years, Alice Marie Hickman, preceded him in death on November 6, 2011.

Mr. Hickman was employed with the Virginia Department of Transportation as an equipment operator.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.

He was a member of the Chimney Run Church of the Brethren.

He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by three children, Edward Lee "Petie" Hickman of Warm Springs, Edward Wayne "Charlie" Woodzell of Hot Springs, Virginia, Justin Wayne Woodzell and wife, Debra of Hot Springs, Virginia; three grandchildren, Brad Hickman and wife, Tonya of Batesville, Virginia, Robert Hickman of Burnsville, Virginia and Melissa Wilfong and husband, Jamie of Burnsville, Virginia; eight great grandchildren; a brother; William "Bucky" Hickman of Hot Springs; three sisters, Gladys Gillispie of Fairfax, Virginia, Elsie Keyser of Florida and Marguerite Ryder of Warm Springs. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis "Bub" Hickman and a sister, Mabel Gertrude "Sis" Dean.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Chimney Run Church of the Brethren with Pastor Billy Robertson, Pastor Lennie Stinnett and Reverend Garland Humphries officiating. Interment will be in Jacob Cleek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Hickman, Robert Hickman, Jeffrey Hamilton, Jamie Wilfong, Billy Ryder and Jerry Liptrap. Military Honors will be provided by Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033.

The family will receive friends one hour prior from 1:00 Ð 2:00 p.m. to services at the church or anytime at the home located at 361 Chimney Run Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Fire or Rescue Squad, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.

Arrangements are being handled by McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
