Obituary for Ruby Blankenship Chapman Ruby Blankenship Chapman
Former Owner Of Chapman Plumbing And Heating Dies At Age 87

Mrs. Ruby Blankenship Chapman, age 87, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Brian Center-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Warren Calvin Chapman, who preceded her in death on April 26, 1983.

Mrs. Chapman was born December 8, 1925 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Mont Blankenship and Mary Tingler Blankenship.

A lifetime member of this community, she was a graduate of Boiling Spring High School and Covington Business School.

Ruby had been employed by the American Red Cross, the Social Security Administration and Westvaco prior to becoming the owner and operator of Chapman Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning until her retirement in 1990.

Mrs. Chapman was a longtime and active member of Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class, the Women's Ministry and served her church as a deacon. She was a member and secretary of the former Covington Chapter #21 Order of the Eastern Star; also a member of the Covington Business and Professional Women's Club, the Jackson River Garden Club and the Covington Women's Club.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Chapman Bradshaw and husband, James "Jay" Bradshaw of Covington; five grandchildren, Jerimiah, Jacob, Jayme, Jordyn and Joel of Covington; one sister, Virginia Hubbard of Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Judy Hazen.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie B. Crawford.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Harris.

Pallbearers will be Jerimiah Bradshaw, Jacob Bradshaw, Monty Crawford, Robert Crawford, Charles Hubbard, and Mike Sanders.

The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time and at other times, at the residence, 131 W. Phillip Street, Covington.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 2306 S. Church Avenue, Covington, VA 24426, the Covington Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 588, Covington, VA 24426, or Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
