Obituary for George Preston Mann George Preston Mann
U. S. Navy Veteran Was Former Machine Shop Supervisor At Hercules

Mr. George Preston Mann, age 86, of Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor, VA. He was the husband of Betty Howard Mann.

Mr. Mann was born June 15, 1926 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Thomas Frank Mann and Annie Shaffer Mann.

He served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.

He was employed as a supervisor in the machine shop of the former Hercules, Inc before his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mann is survived by a daughter, Julie Mann Jones and husband, Rodney Jones, Jr. of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Brittany Harrell of Roanoke; and a great granddaughter, Kaylee Bowers of Roanoke, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be Jay Easton, Dave Richards, Herman McConnell, James "Blue" Lockhart, Nathan Lee, Emory Hinkle, Paul Howard and Corey Urban. Alternate pallbearers will be James Nelson Bush, Chazy Nicely, and John Stec. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Carter and Preston Carson.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
