Obituary for Marguerite Whitmer Kirk Marguerite Whitmer Kirk
Clifton Forge Native Dies At The Age Of 91

Marguerite Whitmer Kirk entered the gates of her heavenly father on March 31, 2013.

She passed away at The Glebe, in Daleville, where she has been a resident since June of 2010.

She was the daughter of the late Charles Hostin and Virginia Mae East Whitmer.

She was born April 28, 1921 in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bailey Kirk and three brothers, Frank Lewis Whitmer, Charles Edward Whitmer, and Leon M. Whitmer.

She is survived by a sister, Louise Whitmer Griggs and husband, Kenneth Griggs of Roanoke, and a sister-in-law, Mary Whitmer of Roanoke. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and great nephews.

Marguerite was a graduate of Clifton Forge High School and Dunsmore Business School in Staunton, Virginia.

She and her husband were both employees of Hercules in Wilmington, Delaware.

After Jack passed away, she made her home in Roanoke, Virginia.

Not only was Marguerite a beautiful lady, she was an intelligent, loving, kind, and compassionate person. She was always willing to help those who needed help and share her wisdom. She loved Clifton Forge and was a very generous person working to improve the city.

Her love for life will carry through the souls of her loved ones. We will cherish and honor everything that she was and everything she will continue to be. She will be loved and missed by many. We have gained an angel who will watch over us and protect us always with unconditional love, guidance, and devotion as she has done here on earth. Those we love don't go away. They live in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shenandoah Baptist Church, 6520 Williamson Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge with Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge on Friday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.
