Bessie Douglas Carter, 73, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

She was born November 22, 1939, in Buena Vista, a daughter of the late George Washington Douglas and Elsie Kyle Douglas.

Mrs. Carter was a member of the Pentecostal Outreach Church and retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are her husband, Claude Carter Sr. of Buena Vista; children, Rose Wallace, Michael Carter, Janice Carter, Claudia Carter, Sandra Carter, Claude Carter Jr., George Carter, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Pentecostal Outreach Church in Buena Vista with the Bishop Larry Clark and the Dr. Rev. Lee R. Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista.
