Obituary for Lawrence Melvin (PawPaw) Adcock Lawrence Melvin (PawPaw) Adcock
Eagle Rock Resident Was Former MeadWestvaco Pipefitter

Lawrence Melvin (PawPaw) Adcock, age 76, of 136 Farm Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He was born August 1, 1936 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late George Elwood Adcock and Myrtle Mae Adcock.

He was a pipefitter for MeadWestvaco, retiring in 1999 after 41 years.

He was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Hunt Club in Burnsville, a former member of the Virginia National Guard, a University of Virginia sports fan, and an avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Elwood Adcock, and sister-in-law, Betty Adcock.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Hale Adcock of Eagle Rock; two sons, Matthew Wayne "Matt" Adcock and wife, Suzanne T. Adcock of Clifton Forge, and Andrew George "Andy" Adcock and wife, Janet L. Adcock of Covington; a sister, Marsha Scruggs and husband, James of Newport News; nine grandchildren, Tyler Adcock, Carter Adcock, Braden Adcock, Drew Adcock, Ryan Adcock, Benjamin Adcock, Matthew Wells, Shelton Richeson and Jordan Richeson; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Hugh "Popeye" Hite of Hot Springs.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. There will be no formal services. However, the family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the home of Matt and Suzanne Adcock, 1010 Ingalls Street, Clifton Forge, VA.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Peaks Presbyterian Pilgrimage, C/O Sherry Wallace, 1146 Clearfield Road, Roanoke, VA 24015 or to Galatia Presbyterian Church, 78 Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock, VA 24085.
