Rodney Sherwood Putnam, age 54, of 11229 Douthat State Park Road, Millboro, Virginia, died April 29, 2013 at his residence.

He was born August 1, 1958 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late William and Mary Brady Putnam.

He was a mechanic for Clemmons Tire of Covington and a member of the Shenandoah Hog Association.

He enjoyed fishing with his granddaughter and being outside.

He is survived by two daughters, Candace Chumney of Selma and Courtney Loan and husband, Adam of Roanoke; a son, Keith Putnam of Millboro; eight sisters, Golda Westbury and companion, Keith of Belton, TX, Marie Gottlieb and husband, Mark of Clifton Forge, Tracy Perry and husband, Michael of Clifton Forge, Lee Gregory of South Carolina, Elizabeth Putnam of Louisa, Joy Putnam and companion, Andy of Covington, Ethel Adams and husband, Pete of Millboro, and Trinnette Wilhelm of Staunton; three brothers, Andrew Putnam and wife, Dortha of Belton, TX, Donald Putnam of Belton, TX and John Putnam and wife, Kathy of Valatie, NY; the mother of his children, Wanda Brandt of Selma; three grandchildren, Caleb Dressler, Madison Loan and Elijah Loan; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Regina Walls.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Roger Bush officiating. The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Ethel and Pete Adams, 11131 Douthat State Park Road, Millboro, VA.
