Clifton Forge Native Was Central Advent Christian Church Member

Hattie King Gardner Brown, 97, of The Woodlands, and formerly of Pine Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died early Saturday morning, May 4, 2013 at the nursing home.

She was born in Clifton Forge on December 13, 1915, a daughter of the late Charlie Phillip and Emma Irene Thomasson King.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Central Advent Christian Church.

She is survived by a special niece, Debbie Knick Curtis of Clifton Forge; son-in-law, Delbert Nicely of Forest; daughter-in-law, Stella Gardner of Illinois; sister-in-law, Jean King of Buena Vista; brother-in-law, Bruce Lipscomb of Maryland; 14 grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Cookie Reynolds of Covington.

Mrs. Brown is also survived by her family at the Woodlands of Clifton Forge.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Miles Gardner, and by her second husband, Robert "Bob" Brown; a daughter, Myra King Gardner Nicely in 2012; sons, Thomas Gardner in 1996 and Bobby Gardner in 2004; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Gardner in 2012; brothers, Charles King, Herbie King and Overton King; sisters, Frances Fluke, Hazel Chick, Joyce Lipscomb, Doris Knick, Ruby Cornell and Eleanor King; a grandson, Rusty Nicely.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Peters and Rev. Virgil Woodie officiating.

Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tom Gardner, Damon Reynolds, Larry Husfelt, Richard Sealy, Monte Curtis and Andy Reynolds.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home, however, friends may call any time at the home of Debbie Curtis, 565 Verge Street, Clifton Forge. The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mrs. Brown's name to the Activities Fund of the Woodlands, 1000 Fairview Avenue, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422 or to the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.
