Lysle Douglas (Doug) Smith, 65, of 4600 Cartwright Lane, Covington, Virginia, died Monday May 27, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

He was born August 9, 1947, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Leighton E. and Virginia Whanger Smith.

Doug served with the United States Army.

He had retired from MeadWestvaco as a mechanic after more than 25 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, L.C. Smith and a sister-in-law, Nancy Smith.

Surviving are two brothers, Larry R. Smith of Summerfield, NC, and Leighton E. Smith , Jr. and his wife, Regina, of Iron Gate, and his long time best friend, David Moore, of Covington.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel.

The interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at Arritt Funeral Home on Saturday.

The family suggests that dontona in Doug's name be made to the Alleghany Humane Society or to Mountain Regional Hospice.
