Army Veteran Enjoyed Working On Anything Mechanical

Mr. Gary Wayne Hawkins, age 54, of Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at his residence.

He was the husband of Debbie Humphries Hawkins.

Mr. Hawkins was born December 19, 1958 in Covington, the son of Wynona Wathall Crush and husband, Bobby and the late Jesse James Hawkins, Jr.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Gary was employed as a truck operator by AMEC and enjoyed working on anything mechanical. He liked the outdoors especially hunting and fishing and was a New York Giants fan. Most of all, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his mother, stepfather and wife, Mr. Hawkins is survived by two daughters, Danielle Hawkins and Deena Hawkins; one grandson, Elijah Hairston; one brother, James G. Hawkins; two sisters, Deidre H. Massey of Covington and Lisa K. Hawkins of Bedford; and one niece, Melissa Martin.

A funeral service was conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Fleenor officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rex Allman, Ricky Dressler, Kippy Allen, Ricky Morris, Bruce Walthall, Kenny Bird, Kenny Johnson and Tony Murphy. Honorary pallbearers were cousins and co-workers and friends.

The family received friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Loving Funeral Home.
