Obituary for Leonard Edward (Sonny) McLain, Jr. Leonard Edward (Sonny) McLain, Jr.
Retired Salesman Was Covington Native

Leonard Edward (Sonny) McLain, Jr., 73, of 203 East Chestnut Street, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. McLain was born February 7, 1940, in Covington, the son of Ruby Kelley McLain of Covington and the late Leonard E. McLain, Sr.

He had retired in 2004 as a salesman and rental car agent with Alleghany Motors in Covington.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the United States Army.

He was a member of the Edgemont Presbyterian Church.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 50 years, Becky King McLain, of Covington; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chris Mackey of Charleston, SC; two grandsons, Austin Mackey of Charleston, SC, and John Mackey and Joey Hawk of Simpsonville, SC, and several cousins.

The funeral service was held Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating.

In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated. The family suggests that donation in Sonny's name be made to the Edgemont Presbyterian Church; 2306 S. Church Ave.; Covington, VA 24426, or to the Covington Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 588; Covington, VA 24426.
