MeadWestvaco Recovery Department Employee Was Church Deacon, Trustee

Mr. Michael Shane Madison, age 54, of Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Pamela Ward Madison for twenty-two years.

Mr. Madison was born December 19, 1958 in Alleghany County, the son of Karen Phillips Madison Wenke and stepfather, David Hammond Wenke.

A resident of this community all of his life, he was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1977.

Michael was employed by MeadWestvaco where he worked in the Recovery Department.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and served his church as a past elect trustee and deacon. Michael loved traveling, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed floating the river.

He never met a stranger.

He was a UVA fan and loved the Atlanta Braves.

Mr. Madison is also survived by one brother, Robert Craig Madison and wife, Tammy of Covington; one sister, Kristin Madison Rapan and husband, Angelo of Memphis, TN; uncle, Robert Carroll Phillips and wife, Cary of Covington; mother-in-law, Ona Reynolds of Covington; sister-in-law, Sherry Hart and husband, Mike of Troutville; three brothers-in-law, Glenn Ward and wife, Stacy of Forest, Marlin Ward and wife, Karen of Covington, Stuart Ward and fiancee, Barbara Wolfe of Covington; nephew, Michail Madison; niece, Mackenzie Madison; a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Arden Baker, Bill Gurd and Roscoe Humphries.

Mr. Madison was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roy P. and Mary Gaylor Phillips; his paternal grandparents, Kyle and Sarah Madison; and an infant brother.

Pallbearers will be Craig Madison, Michail Madison, Kevin Nicely, Stuart Ward, Roscoe Humphries, Jr., Fred Pifer, C.E. Dressler, III, and Louie Mendoza.

Honorary pallbearers will be David W. Halsey, Sr., David Wenke, Bobby Phillips, Angelo Rapan and Bill Gurd. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Monday, June 10, 2013, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Duncan and Rev. Ray Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family received friends Sunday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Ona Reynolds, 123 Hallies Road, Covington and Karen and David Wenke, 1005 Apache Court, Covington.
