John Preston Bryant, 66, of Lexington, Virginia, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 30, 1947, in Lexington, a son of the late Eugene Edward Bryant and Violet Huffman Bryant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Chad Eric Bryant; and one brother, Andrew Jackson Bryant.

John retired from Virginia Military Institute as the Heating Plant supervisor after 29 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jeanette Pugh Bryant; one daughter, Lori Bryant Carter; one son, Sean Conway Carter; three granddaughters, Kelsey Carter Rose, Emily Grace Carter, and Maggie Marie Carter; two grandsons, Wyatt Cole Carter and William Aaron Rose; one great-granddaughter, Leah Marie Rose; extended family, Mike, Jennifer, Amber, Maddie, and Hunter Rentz.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

There will not be funeral services at this time, but the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
