Former Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church Treasurer Was Bath County Bank Teller

Mrs. Charlotte Thacker May, age 81, of Hot Springs, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on August 9, 2013 at Bath Community Hospital.

Charlotte was born on October 5, 1931 in Bath County, a daughter of the late Charles Hopkins Thacker and Emma Margaret Hodge Thacker.

Charlotte was a bank teller in Bath County for over 20 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a lifelong member of Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church, serving a treasurer for many years, and a member of the United Methodist Women's Group.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Walker Lewis May; three children: a son, Dallas Walker May and wife, Kaye of Millboro; daughters Gwen Phillips and husband, Kes, and Karen McNally and husband, Kevin, all of Hot Springs; five grandchildren, Keswick Phillips and wife, Teresa of Warm Springs, Craig Phillips and wife, Jill of Hot Springs, Kris Phillips of Hot Springs, Jennifer May Crawford and husband, Joey of Iron Gate, and Jason May and wife, Courtney of Buchanan; a step granddaughter, Mandy McNally and husband, Mike Boyka of Teaneck, New Jersey; seven great grandchildren: Eli, Noah, Abbey, Isaac and Hannah Phillips of Hot Springs, Ryleigh Phillips of Warm Springs and Sadie Lynne May of Buchanan; two great step grandchildren, Skylar Shelton of Warm Springs and Preston Boyka of Teaneck; one brother, Lloyd Thacker of Reva, Virginia; three sisters, Leona Altizer of Hot Springs, Helen Baldwin and husband, Ed of West Roxbury, Massachusetts and Josephine Thacker of Wyandotte, Michigan; two brothers-in-law, Ernie May and wife, Becky of Grove City, Pennsylvania, and Ashby May and wife, Shirley of Bacova; a sister-in-law, Virginia Strasser of Hot Springs; a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; and a special caregiver, Rhonda Kennedy of Millboro.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma McComb of Hot Springs, and one step-grandson, Matthew McNally of Boulder, Colorado.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Monday, August 12, at 2:00 p.m. at McLaughlin and Young Funeral Home in Hot Springs, with Pastor Lorrie Aikens and Pastor Donald Lee Altizer officiating. Interment will be at Warm Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Keswick Phillips, Craig Phillips, Kris Phillips, Jason May, Joey Crawford, Danny Phillips, Tracy Phillips, David Altizer and Kenneth McComb. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 Ð 2:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Walker May, 36 Wilhelm Drive, Hot Springs, Virginia.
