Obituary for Norbourne Elvin (Shorty) Paxton Norbourne Elvin (Shorty) Paxton
Alleghany County Native Was Longtime Staunton Barber

Mr. Norbourne Elvin (Shorty) Paxton, age 82, of Staunton, Virginia, ied Friday, August 9, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his wife, Nancy Smith Paxton and family.

Mr. Paxton was born February 19, 1931, in Alleghany County. He was the son of the late Dewey Lee Paxton, Sr. and Nina Reed Paxton.

He was the owner of Shorty's Barber Shop and was a barber in Staunton for fifty-six years.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Craigsville Post #9480 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #213 in Staunton.

Shorty was of the Presbyterian faith.

He loved hunting, fishing, bowling and enjoyed gardening.

In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, Nancy Smith Paxton, Mr. Paxton is survived by one sister, Christine P. Kimberlin of Goshen and a number of special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Paxton was preceded in death by two brothers, Norris A. Paxton and Dewey Lee Paxton, Jr. and four sisters, Carole Jean Paxton Mays, Leola Rogers, Eloise Martin and Erma Boone.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Linwood Wilkes and Pastors Ronald and Donald Martin.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be Ron Swann, Dean Rogers, Walter Lee Rogers, Jr., Leon Brooks, Gary Kimberlin, Jeff Humphries, Joey Rogers and Walter Lee Rogers, Sr.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
